Keep Your Mouth Healthy

This year has been the year of Chaos.  It has been an absolutely crazy time and has left many with a whole different life circumstances.  I know that for many people their entire life has changed in that they have had to stay home for extended periods of time.  Lots of Americans have been forced to work from home in order to keep their jobs and what this has done is to change their daily routines.  Many families have children staying at home and not going to school and what this has done is caused grocery bills to increase.  Along with this people are simply eating and drinking more and that is in someways causing their dental health to get worse.  They are forming bad habits and I want to give top tips on how to stay healthy this year with all he changes.

The first thing in order to increase your dental health is to simply create a good diet plan.  The diet the stape of what we do and how we eat. I suggest working on making a plan of what to eat weeks ahead of time and actually sticking to it.  It does not have to be a increadibly healthy diet, but try to work on keeping out foods and drinks that you know will cause plaque to build up and your teeth to erode.  Most of us know what foods and drinks to this and we still are a big arrogent and forget it.  It is not really the worst thing that could happen, but if you are able to eat and drink with the best of intentions you can increase your health.

Once you know that you have a diet in place and are working on cutting out bad foods and drinks then you can actually work on keeping the excess food and sugar off your teeth.  I think that it is important to prevent the major issues by brushing your teeth consistently and  often. The average American only brushes their teeth once a day.  The ADA sugguests that you brush your teeth twice a day in order to get the extra food off of your teeth and to fight that plaque buildup.  It is a wise move to work this amount of brushing into your dental routine.  The difficulty of this can be hard because we are creatures of habit.  In order to create a habit of brushing twice or even three times a day extra work needs to be put in.  This can be done by setting alarms on your phone.  You can schedule out a whole 30 days or a month of alarms in order to put your body on a schedule of brushing 2 to three times a day.  This can help fight the need to leave the house for emergency dental work by being preventative.  That is the whole idea  and the  pandemic.  We can minimalize our exposure by being safer in our own homes as well.

The nex thing is simple and it is something that can be done with almost zero money.  That is to drink more water.  By staying hydrated on a daily basis you are actually cleaning your mouth.  Not only is the water itself rinsing your mouth but it is producing more saliva.  This is the bodies natural cleaner.  It helps to get plaque and tartar building compounds out of your mouth. So drink a little more and be a little healthier!
